I've come from a different angle in the scene, where I used to go to and perform at free parties, happy daze. The same principles you have described above were of particular importance to me and my mate (we played back to back) which was pretty damned hard when everyone couldn't give a toss, all they wanted to hear was hoovers! However our format did work well and we were asked back a few times. Quote: This thread is about getting out of bedroom Dj'ing to play to people. Quote: Now that's a bit patronising to Andy. Quote: Well, I'm sorry if it comes across that way. It wasn't intended to be. I didn't download the mix, because I could tell from the t/l that it wasn't my bag (baby). I've no doubt it cut the mustard, but looking at the tracks I can tell it's probably not what I would want to listen to in a bar. It's a bit "serious" if you get my meaning? I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just I'd prefer to be listening to something more "fun". Actually, that sounds bad. "Less serious"? Damn this pathetic language. I think I'll invent a new word: more "yuduban". mmmmm. yaduban. |

It is funny how message boards can exacerbate mis-interpretations. The written word accounts for something like 5% (??) of communication, intonations, facial expressions and body movement account for the rest. So is it any wonder there are so many arguments on message boards? Jus .....and my senses tell me

Quote: I don't geddit? Quite the opposite? I was kinda referring to Peeps like Swan-e playing emmerdale farm in the middle of a rave in Cornwall, or Jeremy Healey mixing Shades of Rythmn with Billy Ocean's Carribean Queen. Altern-8 turn up outside Shelleys with a sounds system on the back of a lorry as people are leaving at closing time and manage to play 5 tracks before the Police arrived. Sasha being so @#%$ he couldn't even put a rekkid on the decks, MC's telling people to just fvck off if they weren't dancing. That was kinda ground breaking for our generation, a kind of no holes barred go for it mentality, which IMO seems to have rather dissapated from the dance scene? n'est pa Everything, yes, is very polished and highly crafted but that's when you start to lose the soul of genre? Andy - I've emailed a friend of mine who runs a prog night in London called Twisted Melon. They have a smallish back room there, which I think is well suited to your stuff, or at least the deep, laidback prog stuff. Of course I don't know if he does, but you never know... |

Capitalism kills the soul | ||

Jus...
It's just commercialism/capitalism taking hold of the scene, that's all. Once greed gets involved and people start to see how they can make money out of something then you begin to lose the soul... What a cynical old sod I am today - woke up not liking the world and the way it's heading today - irrationally angry. Spent most of the last hour packing things up for Ebay and shouting obscenities at people talking on the radio. Threw my arse-felching-dogwank-shitfucker of an Epson printer out of the studio window too, cos it was just pissing me off. Should probably go back to bed... |

I wish.
I've always been like this. I realised many years ago that there is an insanely violent streak that runs through me, and I just have to keep it under wraps! I have a door in my flat that I punched the @#%$ out of, once, when I was in a rage - it's still there! I keep it as a reminder not to take my anger outside my home... I think Jonas and DR Cale have seen this... |
